The design navigates the site’s complexities: amalgamating three sites at various stages of planning approval; the impact of light rail and pedestrianisation of George Street; proposals to neighbouring sites; and strict controls requiring negotiation with Council and multiple stakeholders. Crone’s design prioritises the public realm and everyday experience. The public domain and through-site link will incorporate high-quality public art as a place-making instrument to revitalise the area. The project will create a pedestrian gateway to Sydney’s business district, unlocking a new cultural and creative precinct and transforming Circular Quay.
