Recipient of the Lord Mayor’s Commendation at the 2018 NSW Architecture Awards as well as a Commendation for Commercial Architecture, this commercial tower has a finely detailed crystalline facade with a unique sculpted form featuring curved corners that open up and tilt back as the building rises.
Its transparency showcases the ground level retail and upper-level workspaces while maintaining the highest environmental performance, daylight and views to the city. Elegant fluted sandstone columns complement the heritage context.
The AIA Jury surmised, “333 George Street adopts a curvilear form that defines a significant urban corner on George Street overlooking Martin Place. A carefully crafted glass veil and cantilevered slab edge create a dialogue between the internal life of the building and observers at street level. The result is a building that enhances and animates the city streetscape.”
Crone worked closely with Grimshaw to deliver this prestigious project.
