422 Kent is a boutique hotel, residential and retail development in the warehouse district of Sydney’s CBD.

The design sought to create a lively, comfortable place within a very challenging, tightly constrained site. Crone turned the tricky level change between the two frontages into an opportunity to create two different entries, cleverly separating the most public uses from the private residential entry.

On the retail and hotel levels, a brick facade gives the building a fine-grain texture reflecting the surrounds, while the three columns of wintergardens hark back to the tripartite facade arrangements that predominate the area. These wintergardens create cosy outlooks within the bustling city, perfect for travelers.
