The articulated podium in Crone’s design for this 2017 design excellence competition provides a high level of privacy in response to the neighbouring opposing buildings while the tower offers a more open, structured facade to enhance the elegance of its form. Viewed as a single element, the volume appears split by an undulant, horizontal recess that references the datum lines of its immediate context. This dramatic cut allows the facade to respond to its context across the different levels of the building while vertical breaks through the mass define clean, slender volumes.
