This design encourages people to slow down and engage with the space.

A set of market halls are relocated and raised above the lightrail/pedestrian thoroughfare to free up space for the plaza allowing them to become an iconic signifier along the key axis of the city. The structural colonnade underneath unifies the space with the historic horseshoe vaults around the perimetre of the existing square.
A sloping rooftop terrace within the horseshoe is designed as a large city park, sheltered behind the new market hall and the horseshoe bridge. We densify the city park into a city forest to provide relief from the intense urban environment. In this way the multiple levels of City Square becomes a truly engaging public space for the city of Perth.
